The frame wars around the Pelosi assassination attempt are noteworthy. This is from one of the old school rightwing information warfare nodes (not linking to it). You can clearly see the framing attempt, the story is meta (a story about framing the story). What do you notice?
The first half introduces doubt, frames DePape in leftwing terms, uses paralipsis (I’m not saying; I’m just saying) to say and not say the standard rightwing frame on the story: "don't know full story...but" "Pelosi mansion" (not a "house") various leftwing sounding descriptors "what, if any, political motives"
Second half: DePape is CERTAINLY not one of US. Attacks media/Dems: story is being used against us, was (perhaps) an op to create a narrative. Really this is an attack on US and don't let their false framing and false narrative ruin our election chances.
So much of our political discourse is about trying to control our political discourse. The information wars are always trying to control what we think about, how we think about it, and what we think we should do about it.
In this case, a crime was committed. A serious, anti-democratic violent crime. The points of stasis (Latin for "stopping") or how we reason through an issue: What happened? How should we understand or label it? How should we value it? What should we do about it?
Think about how you would answer those questions if you agreed to adopt the rightwing framing here versus how how you would answer those questions if you agreed to adopt the mainstream version of events.
Conservatives frame the January 6th insurrection and coup as a "patriotic protest" and so this framing folds into that argument. If they admit that this dude was a rightwing assassin, then they lose the very important Jan6 frame war and maybe the midterm election. A lot at stake!
Update: the attacker made clear that it was a politically motivated attack. Read more here.
Thank you for posting in this space. I have now abandoned twitter and your postings were going to be the biggest lost. HRC and others have other outlets but you didn’t and I was deeply regretting it. So ... insert happy dance here.
